Lautaro Martinez Interrupts Unusual Slump at Home

Lautaro Martinez has righted the ship following a slow start for his standards and put his stamp on the narrow victory over Venezia on Sunday. El Toro hadn’t produced much in the final few matches of last season as the Nerazzurri secured the Scudetto early. He hadn’t scored at San Siro in 249 days, as he last found the target back in on February 28^th, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.

Thanks to three goals in the last four matches, the Inter star is climbing the capocannoniere’s chart. Mateo Retegui leads it with 11 goals, followed by Marcus Thuram (7), Ademola Lookman, and Dusan Vlahovic (6).

Lautaro Martinez was particularly spirited late in the game during a VAR review that nullified Venezia’s equalizer. He commented to DAZN afterward (via Mediaset).

“The referee gave no added time in the first half despite some stoppages, instead seven in the second time one. It was too much. We all have to improve. Otherwise, football forges ahead, and we stay still. This angers me. We all want a better product, and everybody has to chip in.”

“Surely, we needed to seal the game earlier. That was the case versus Juventus too. We’re aware of that. The season is long, and we must ameliorate in those details.”

Lautaro Martinez commented on breaking the spell at San Siro.

“It was about time. However, as I always say, I work for the team. I had two misses in the first half, but then the goal led to our victory.”

Inter reduced the gap from the league-leading Napoli to one point following Round 11. The two sides will meet on Sunday.
