Lautaro Martinez Touches on Potential Inter Extension

Inter captain Lautaro Martinez replied to a question about his future in the pre-game presser ahead of the Champions League encounter against Real Sociedad (via Sky).

“You never know in football, but I can say that I’m very happy to be here, wear the armband, and defend these colors and fans. There were teams keen on signing me, but I wanted to stay. Renewal? I’m serene, there’s time to do that, but I’m sure we will talk about it with the management soon.”

Martinez is currently under contract with Inter until 2026 and could be in line for another pay bump. El Toro also addressed his new partner Marcus Thuram.

“He’s young, as we have the same age. He arrived in a new type of football, which he didn’t know. I’m happy he’s welcoming the help. He has a lot of quality and strength. I’m glad to play with him.”

Martinez assessed their chances of going all the way again this season.

“We are a new team with several newcomers. We’re working well, but this is a long journey. I can’t say for certain. We’re just getting started. We’ll work hard as we’ve always done with the coach and his staff. Real Sociedad are an interesting rival with high-caliber players. We’ll have to pay attention to their aggression and work well in the early build-up and in exploiting the spaces.”
