Lawyer Capello Weighs in on Inter and Milan Mafia Scandal: “Fines Likely, No Major Consequences”

Serie A heavyweights Inter and Milan have come under heavy scrutiny after Italian police put several prominent members of their biggest fan groups behind bars. However, renowned lawyer Pierfilippo Capello believes the club will get away with minor punishments.

Inter and Milan have put themselves at complete disposal to local authorities amid an ongoing investigation of their fans’ ties with mafia crime syndicate ‘Ndrangheta. Despite their readiness to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, the San Siro tenants may still have to pay some fines.

That’s according to Capello.

From a sporting point of view, we are at a standstill with the FIGC Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has requested the documents from the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office,” he said, as reported by Calciomercato.

I don’t foresee huge things for Inter and Milan, except for possible fines. From a criminal point of view, the matter is different: it is necessary to understand if there was someone who committed something he should not have done.

We must remember that in all clubs there is a subject with the task of interfacing with the fans, then if he does it with organized groups and in certain ways is another matter,” Capello concluded.

Italian police arrested 19 people on Monday under suspicion they tried to take over all lucrative businesses around the San Siro area, including food, tickets, parking lots, and souvenir sales. Some of the incarcerated suspects are high-profile members of the Inter and Milan famous fan groups Curva Nord and Curva Sud.
