Lazio Accelerate Negotiations for Multiple Goalkeepers

Lazio have opened talks with Granada for Luis Maximiano and with Empoli for Guglielmo Vicario to fill their opening between the sticks. The Biancocelesti had Marco Carnesecchi atop their shortlist, but they were unable to strike a deal with Atalanta. A major shoulder injury also contributed to hindering the transfer.

The capital side will have to sign two goalkeepers in the summer window. Reversing a previous decision, Pepe Reina asked the club to release him from his contract, Tuttomercatoweb informs. He is angling for a return to Spain, most likely to Villarreal.

As per Alfredo Pedullà, Maximiano is currently in the lead over Vicario to become the next Lazio starter. Granada, which got relegated last season, seem open to doing the deal on an initial loan with option to buy. Instead, Empoli, which bought out the youngster for €9M, are asking for €12/15M.

Ivan Provedel is the management’s favorite target for the backup role. While he was available on a free a few weeks back, he has re-upped with Spezia. Salvatore Sirigu has been offered, but the bigwigs are lukewarm on him. Pietro Terracciano is a long shot, even though he will be supplanted by Pierluigi Gollini.

Our Take on Lazio Going After Maximiano and Vicario

It is unfortunate that they seem to have given up the chase for Carnesecchi, who has the highest upside of the lot. The other two options might not be prodigal, but they are both solid specialists and fairly young. The choice will likely fall on whoever comes cheaper.
