Luca Torreira could have returned to Italy this summer, as Lazio pursued him, but the negotiation didn’t go through because of an injury. Roberto Druda, who unearthed him in Uruguay and is still in touch with the midfielder, discussed it on Radio Firenzeviola (via Tuttomercatoweb).
“I hear from him from time to time. I think he made a mistake by going to Turkey. As a matter of fact, he lost his spot in the national team. I think he shouldn’t have left the Gigliati and should have become their captain, but agents always create trouble.”
Lazio inquired about Torreira this summer and was close to landing him.
“He got hurt just as the negotiation with them was underway, and that’s why it wasn’t completed.”
The midfielder suffered an MCL sprain and was on the shelf for a month because of it. The Biancocelesti added a similar contributor in Nicolò Rovella.
Druda also dished on Cristiano Biraghi.
“He was subjected to too much criticism considering how he has fared in these last few years. He has to be judged for a campaign as a whole and not just for single matches. Italy didn’t call him up only by happenstance. It’s no coincidence that he wears the captain’s armband. If you give him the right ball, he always manages to create something good. We have a nice relationship with Fiorentina.”
