Lazio Begin Searching for a New Defender for January

Nicolò Casale is quickly back on the mend after missing a few matches in October and November because of a right adductor strain. He had returned in the Derby, watching it from the bench. It was reportedly more severe and in a different part of the muscle. The rough season of the former Verona center-back could push Lazio to seek a defender in January, Il Messaggero relays.

The Biancocelesti have used just three men in the role, the others being Alessio Romagnoli and Patric, since Maurizio Sarri hasn’t trusted youngsters Mario Gila and Dimitrije Kamenovic. They are very thin anytime somebody gets hurt or suspended. The ex-Milan captain will sit out the Salernitana game due to muscle fatigue, so one of the two youngsters will inevitably start.

Casale will be sidelined for two-to-three weeks due to his new injury. Lazio have started scouring the market for a defender. They have received strong reports on Nicolas Valentini from their scouts. Inter are eyeing the Boca Juniors talent as well.

In addition, they have been offered Sassuolo’s Gian Marco Ferrari. He had fallen out of favor early on but resumed being a regular in recent tilts. His contract expires at the end of the season.

Our Take on Lazio Needing a Defender

They should definitely onboard somebody since they have been playing with fire so far. Ferrari wouldn’t be a great fit since he’s left-footed like Romagnoli, but a similar Serie A veteran would help.
