Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri has held a motivational speech to his players ahead of Saturday’s daunting trip to Turin to take on Juventus. According to Corriere dello Sport via LazioNews24, the ex-Bianconeri coach is desperate for another spirited performance after toppling Napoli last time out.
Following an abysmal start to the 2023/24 Serie A season, Lazio bounced back from a brace of one-goal margin losses to Lecce and Genoa with a sterling 2-1 win at Napoli on the eve of September’s international break. After leading his side to back-to-back away wins over Partenopei for the first time in the 21st century, Sarri wants to upset another one of his former employers.
“I want the Lazio of Napoli – this is the right attitude. My hope is to give consistency to tonight’s match, but we know we’re vulnerable in this respect,” Sarri said in the build-up to the game.
Lazio can draw confidence from Daichi Kamada opening his Serie A account with a delightful finish to bring Napoli down to their knees a fortnight ago. Sarri’s men were unlucky to walk away from the south with a single-goal margin triumph, knowing VAR disallowed two of their three second-half goals at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
However, he wouldn’t mind another tight victory, especially considering his men last had a sweet taste of winning in Turin in 2017/18. A 2-1 win in the most recent top-flight meeting between Lazio and Juventus could serve as a morale booster. But the visitors cannot take anything for granted.
