Lazio Brass Angrier with the Players than with Sarri

The Lazio hierarchy hasn’t come out to publicly defend Maurizio Sarri after his latest outburst, but they have done it behind the scenes. Director Angelo Fabiani spoke with the squad on Sunday after the dismal loss to Salernitana, Il Messaggero reports (via SportdelSud).

“We were defeated by the team at the bottom of the standings. That’s enough. If anybody thinks that the coach will be fired, they are mistaken. We’ll eat crow together now, myself included.”

Lazio president Claudio Lotito was more incendiary in private remarks.

“We lost a game where were in 11 against 1 (Antonio Candreva) and can’t carry on like this. We need to turn things around in a hurry, or I’ll chop some heads off very soon. I’m out of town for a congress, but I’ve instructed Fabiani. He knows what to do and has carte blanche on everything.”

According to Corriere dello Sport, the brass continues to back Sarri. He changed his tune in the presser before the Celtic game, stating that he joined the Biancocelesti to stay long-term.

Lotito is more furious with the players than the gaffer. He has already stalled a few renewals and has held against the squad the fact that the wages and bonuses are paid in advance. However, that hasn’t led to an improved level of effort on the pitch. Lazio are currently 11th in the standings and are on a three-game negative streak.
