Lazio Determined to Keep Milinkovic-Savic and Alberto

Sevilla once again pursued Luis Alberto this summer, but, despite his wishes, he never seemed too close to leaving Lazio, and the same goes for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic even though he has a short-term contract. Director Igli Tare announced that the Spaniard wouldn’t leave to Sky Sport (via Ansa).

“He will not transfer and will play with the Biancocelesti colors this season. This squad resembles the requests of the coach. Plus, we have the foundation of the pevious work. We went beyond our initial project. We wanted to make 6 purchases, but we completed 8 and changed 14 players in a calendar year. Maurizio Sarri will be able to convey his ideas in the best possible way.”

Lazio president Claudio Lotito wasn’t as final on Milinkovic-Savic as the exec was on Alberto, but his words to Il Messaggero (via Tuttomercatoweb) were along the same line.

“I will not sell him for €50M. He’s worth much more. Our transfer market is over since the Spanish midfielder will not leave either. I kept the promises I made. We signed all the reinforcements Sarri had indicated in his notes.”

Our Take on Lazio Likely Retaining Alberto and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

The Biancocelesti seem to live in an alternate reality compared to other Serie A teams, which have mighty troubles keeping their stars when big teams come calling. They need to be commended for that and, while they aren’t a trendy club, they will be a threat in the Champions League race if the duo does stay. But, despite the proclamations, never say never until the window is open.
