Lazio & Fenerbahce Set to Battle It Out for Premium Serie A Talent

It promises to be another summer saga involving Udinese’s Lazar Samardzic as Lazio and Fenerbahce are ready to go head-to-head for the Serbia international. As per Sky Sport Italia, the Biancocelesti harbor a genuine interest in the 22-year-old, who nearly joined Inter last summer.

Lazio desperately need a new creative midfielder after offloading long-serving talisman Luis Alberto to Al-Duhail. Samardzic ticks all the boxes for the type of player Claudio Lotito is looking to recruit. He’s super talented and already boasts extensive Serie A experience.

Udinese paid RB Leipzig €3 million to bring Samardzic to Italy in the summer of 2021. Since he has lived up to that price tag and then some, last season’s underachievers now value their prized asset at €25m.

Considering the youngster’s burgeoning talent and the potential sell-on value he’d offer, it’s a bargain deal. However, his agent has proved well-versed in shredding his client’s high-profile moves into pieces. It could be a potential concern for Lazio.

After tearing apart Samardzic’s transfer to Inter at the 11th hour last summer, his representative did the same in January. This time, Napoli ended up empty-handed. But there’s another possible problem for Lazio as Jose Mourinho wants the Serbian at Fenerbahce.

Mourinho used to upset Lazio during his managerial stint at Roma. He could do the same from Turkey, as he requested Fenerbahce to sign Samardzic at all costs via Calciomercato.

The Turks’ spending power is well-documented, which could put Lazio in a world of trouble. Therefore, Lotito may need to put his foot on the gas and open talks with Udinese as soon as possible.
