Lazio Forward Likely to Razz Roma with New Contract

Pedro, whose Lazio contract is up at the of the season, alluded that he was mulling his options, including a return to Spain after spending a lot of time abroad. But it appears that he has made up his mind about staying put in the Italian capital a while longer.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via OneFootball), he won’t ink a new deal soon, but only for technical reasons. He and the club will wait past June 30th even though they have reached agreement on the wages. If he re-upped beforehand, he’d have to pay Roma a bonus stemming from his release. He was able to switch teams on a free in 2021, but the Giallorossi could cash in some add-ons.

Maurizio Sarri openly stated that he expected Pedro to re-sign with Lazio in the presser before the Spezia match when asked whether he needed to convince the player (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“It seems to be that he’s very keen on staying here already.”

Despite a few dings and bruises, the Spaniard has been able to play 37 times this season, logging 7 goals and 5 assists and retaining a meaningful role in their offense, especially in light of Ciro Immobile’s injury woes.

Our Take on Lazio and Pedro

He has already transitioned to the later stages of his career, but he’s still reasonably impactful, so he can postpone the move to a smaller team for a couple more years. The Biancocelesti, which need all the offensive depth they can get, will probably be able to shave his salary a little. Burning their crosstown rivals in the process too is a bonus.
