Lazio Fuming over Milinkovic-Savic Ban for Roma Clash

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will miss the Derby against Roma due to yellow-card accumulation. He didn’t start against Salernitana for such reason, but he got booked nine minutes after coming in on a questionable call.

Coach Maurizio Sarri commented to Sky.

“The referee didn’t contribute to keeping the peace today. On that episode, it can’t be called a generous whistle, as it wasn’t even a foul. He was making a play on the ball, the opponent tackled him late and he inevitably stepped on his foot. I’ve been in football for 50 years and I’ve never seen somebody get a yellow card while having possession. Looking back, I would have inserted him in the XI without worrying about a possible sanction.”

“I can’t say what I really think, otherwise I would get a six-month disqualification. The fourth official even told that us that they checked whether he could have been sent off. I saw a player put his hands on the referee and get away scot-free. We would like to receive the same treatment, and a less favorable one would suffice too.”

Zaccagni commented on Milinkovic-Savic missing the Roma clash.

“The nervousness on the pitch all stemmed from the referee. It seemed like he was looking forward to cautioning him. That’s what we felt on the pitch. He consulted the VAR for a red card, which was insane.”

Lazio have a history with Gianluca Manganiello, as a dubious call on a dive had caused Zaccagni to skip the Derby last season for the same reason as the Serbian midfielder.

The Biancocelesti lost their first Serie A game since early September and conceded after six consecutive clean sheets versus Salernitana.
