Lazio Goalkeeper Provedel: “I Get Chills Thinking About the UCL”

Lazio keeper Ivan Provedel has revealed the jitters he has in anticipation of starring in the UEFA Champions League next season. Provedel signed for the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2022, starring uninterruptedly for Lazio last season quickly winning over Maurizio Sarri following the downturn in Luis Maximiano’s form.

Speaking to the microphones of Lazio Style (via LazioNews24), Provedel spoke of his journey so far in the Italian capital and what he expects in the future.

“I’ve always tried to give my best and there have been excellent results both at a team and personal level; I hope to improve even more in the future. I like being in the thick of the game, never stopping. I always want to underline the team’s work, it’s not just the goalkeeper’s merit. There is a lot of defensive work. The best save was the first one I made on De Silvestri at the Olimpico, my first save and exactly what got me started,” he explained.

Provedel revealed the ‘chills’ he gets thinking about playing in the UCL, following recent spells with Italian minnows Spezia and Empoli.

“At Lazio, I knew before arriving that the boys were all of high quality, but I didn’t think they were really that good both humanly and on the pitch. I get chills thinking about the Champions League. At first I’ll think about Serie A, but it is a dream come true.”

Provedel has 45 appearances for Lazio so far. Lazio will feature in the UEFA Champions League next season for the first time in three seasons. They last appeared in the continental competition back in 2020/21, losing out 6-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich in the Round of 16.
