Lazio Granted Permission to Talk with Tottenham Icon

Lazio announced the arrival of Niccolò Rovella in Rome for the medicals and are zeroing in on Hugo Lloris to address their need for a backup goalie. The Biancocelesti have officially sent Luis Maximiano to Almeria on loan with an obligation to buy.

According to Gianluca di Marzio, Tottenham would agree to release the Frenchman from his contract should he come to terms with his suitors. The shot-stopper is open to the destination.

Lazio and Lloris are in direct communication to negotiate the salary. He’d have to sign a two-year deal for the team to benefit from fiscal savings on players transferring to Serie A from abroad.

The 36-year-old currently makes €6M annually. He’d have to accept a steep pay cut to move to the Italian capital. Despite the challenges, the premises to seal the deal quickly are in place, the transfer market expert adds.

Our Take on Lazio and Lloris

Having a reliable backup is paramount, but there’s no shortage of options. Signing somebody that makes more than Ivan Provedel would be counterintuitive, even though he’d be a surefire choice. The Biancocelesti would take a detour compared to their usual strategy if they onboarded veterans with sizeable salaries. Still, they aren’t short on cash or room in their payroll.
