Lazio Head Lotito Reflects on the Passing of Mihajlovic

The football world will bid farewell to Sinisa Mihajlovic today, while several personalities and thousands of fans visited the chapel of rest in Rome Saturday and Sunday. Lazio president Claudio Lotito was among them. He offered his thoughts to La Repubblica and other outlets.

“He was a great friend, man, and father. A professional. I’ve always had a tight relationship with his family and him in particular. He must become an example. He had the courage and dignity to push through a devastating disease without letting anything transpire and always keeping a smile until the end. It was further proof of his caliber. He knew how to take on responsibilities. We’ll do something to honor him. Unfortunately, he was sick and things got worse quickly. We’ll think of some initiatives to celebrate him as an ambassador for Lazio and our sport in general.”

Lotito also took the chance to ponder the situation.

“I think we need to take a look at some matters. Certain diseases are recurring too often among former footballers. They might be tied to the stress or treatments. Gianluca Vialli is ill too. There’s no science behind it yet, but we must start to ask questions about the frequency of these cases. They happen in everyday life too, but they are generally rarer for those who have strong physiques. I wish there’s no correlation, but we have to investigate thoroughly because they are becoming too numerous in our field.”
