Lazio Head Lotito Scoffs at Sassuolo Demand for Berardi

Lazio are targeting Domenico Berardi but, as has happened in previous windows, the price tag established by Sassuolo is lofty, and the attacker isn’t getting any younger. Team president Claudio Lotito lampooned the Neroverdi in some remarks to Il Messaggero (via Mediaset).

“I’d like to sign him, but they want over €30M for somebody that is almost 30 years old. Moreover, he has rich wages. I have to think about not dismantling the team first.”

The chairman took stock of their renewals.

“Pedro has extended his contract, and Luis Alberto is next. Little by little, we will bring in the right reinforcements to make the squad deeper for the Champions League.”

Other than Berardi, Lazio are eyeing cheaper options like Riccardo Orsolini, Wilfried Zaha, and Matteo Politano. The Sassuolo star has also been linked to Juventus.

The attacker would reportedly welcome a move to a bigger team, but the Emilian side isn’t wavering.

Our Take on Lazio and Berardi

Even if he probably wouldn’t put up the same numbers in another team, as he’d have fewer touches and be less pivotal, he’d raise the bar, but nobody will spend that much for him. He’ll really have to push to leave to force his team’s hands and lower his valuation. He has generally refrained from doing so.
