Veteran Swedish coach Sven Goran Eriksson, who led Lazio to only their second Scudetto title back in 2000, has backed the club to book a UEFA Champions League spot by the end of the season. The 74-year-old believes Maurizio Sarri is the right manager to lead the Biancocelesti squad.
Eriksson spoke to the microphones of Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) and gave his thoughts on Lazio’s return to playing ways in second half of the season.
“I always follow Lazio and I must say that I like them a lot. I can’t wait for the championship to start again because, in my opinion, Sarri can reach the Champions League this year. And one day I hope he can come back and win the Scudetto.”
Eriksson led Lazio to the 1999/2000 Serie A title on the final day of the season, as they took advantage of Carlo Ancelotti’s Juventus losing 1-0 to Perugia and beat Reggina 3-0 at home.
