Lazio Initiate Contact for Riccardo Orsolini

Lazio made in touch with Bologna over the possibility of taking left-footed winger Riccardo Orsolini to Rome yesterday. Gianluca Di Marzio claims the Biancocelesti approached Thiago Motta’s side to test the waters for the 26-year-old on the final day of June.

After returning to the Champions League for the first time since 2020, Lazio are keen to strengthen their side. With Sergej Milinkovic-Savic likely to leave amid growing interest from Milan, Maurizio Sarri is in the market for a new midfielder. But the Stadio Olimpic outfit also keep an eye on potential attacking additions.

Orsolini’s name features Sarri’s wishlist close to the top. The ex-Juventus forward enjoyed a stellar season at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. In 34 appearances in 2022/23, he clocked up 11 goals and two assists, establishing himself as one of Serie A’s headline performers.

Unfortunately for Bologna boss Motta, who developed Orsolini into a scoring machine last season, their relationship could end this summer. Under contract until 2024, the Italian could move to Lazio in the coming weeks, with Bologna facing a race against the clock to cash in on their prized asset.

Apart from Ciro Immobile, Lazio lacked reliable attacking options last term. Felipe Anderson struggled with inconsistent performances, while Pedro is on the wrong side of 35. On top of that, kid prodigy Luka Romero is on the brink of joining fierce rivals Milan.

The options are dwindling. And with Champions League football on the horizon, Lazio must address their shortcomings to stay relevant on multiple fronts.
