Lazio Make Headway in Bid for Olympique Marseille Star

Matteo Guendouzi has said ‘yes’ to Lazio as he’s enticed by the idea of moving to Serie A after playing in Premier League and Ligue 1. The Biancocelesti have struck a deal with him on personal terms, but there’s some gap in talks with Olympique Marseille, Alfredo Pedullà relays.

The French club lowered their demands compared to the start of the summer. They could settle for €13/14M plus add-ons. The capital side has the upper hand over other suitors since they swayed the player.

As director Angelo Fabiani stated, Lazio need to trim their squad before onboarding Guendouzi or another midfielder. Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro is headed to Monza. Marcos Antonio was close to PAOK, but the Biancocelesti insisted on a permanent transfer for €8M, and the discussions stalled. Some Turkish and Arab clubs could come into the picture, Il Messaggero relays.

Toma Basic is also expendable, although he’s been reluctant to pack his bags to join a minnow. Lazar Samardzic is reportedly a target too, but the decision-makers are on the same page about going after the OM star first.

Our Take on Lazio and Guendouzi

There’s certainly some fire to the smoke at this point, and they need a signing of this ilk to be whole in the midfield. It’ll probably take just patience and determination.
