Udinese technical director Gianluca Nani has acknowledged ongoing talks with Serie A powerhouse Lazio over Lazar Samardzic’s switch to Rome. In an interview with TV 12 (via Alfredopedulla.com), Nani confirmed that Biancocelesti’s interest in the 22-year-old is concrete.
“I can’t deny that I spoke with Lotito. It was a chat to understand the situation,” he stated. Nani’s words testify to Claudio Lotito’s genuine attempt to sign one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the Italian to flight.
“Lazio like Samardzic and have had him in their sights for quite some time, ever since he was in negotiations with Inter,” Nani continued. “It was an overall discussion to clarify the state of affairs. So, it’s not certain that it will lead to a transfer. We are happy with the player, and we know he can still improve a lot.“
With Felipe Anderson and Luis Alberto gone, Lazio must reinforce their options in advanced positions. Samardzic would be a decent addition, and Lotito seems to be taking the necessary steps to beat Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce to the punch. However, Lazio can’t get too comfortable even if they find common ground with Udinese.
Samardzic’s agent has become notorious for his unique ability to complicate seemingly straightforward negotiations and create unexpected hurdles. He did that to Inter and Napoli in the past 12 months. Lazio should read carefully to avoid a similar fate and snap up the Serbian without unnecessary delays or complications.
