Lazio Newcomer Determined to Win Over His New Coach

Luca Pellegrini was unveiled by Lazio several days after joining the club late in the January window. He has yet to feature for his new club despite being available in the past four matches. The fullback is convinced it’s just a matter of time (via Rai).

“My goal has always been to wear this jersey, but the move came together just on deadline day. It has been the only topic of conversation at my house for a while, but I urged everybody to stay calm. I haven’t fully realized to have achieved my dream yet.”

“I settled in immediately, and this group is truly unique. My teammates helped me a lot. I knew a few of them beforehand and had a good impression of those I had met as opponents. Maurizio Sarri was one further reason for me to join. I hold him in high regard, and everybody speaks positively about him. We were together at Juventus for a couple of months, and I hope that’ll work in my favor.”

Pellegrini is eager to debut with Lazio, which may happen Thursday in the return leg of the European Conference League versus Cluj.

“I don’t know when I’ll be ready, but I fully trust the coach. He has his reasons if he hasn’t fielded me yet. My main objective is to earn my permanence here. I want to be part of the squad next season too. Getting called up by the national team is a consequence of what you do with your club.”

“The Derby is an important game and will have extra meaning, like all the other matches when I’ll face my previous teams.”

Pellegrini joined Lazio on loan with a €12M option to buy from Juventus.
