Lazio Player Ratings vs Milan: Red Mist Descends vs Rossoneri

Lazio – Milan opened the 27th matchday of Serie A this Friday night and the Rossoneri eventually overcame the capital outfit 0-1 through a Noah Okafor strike that came in the 88th minute. After a quiet first half the game opened up. Luca Pellegrini was sent off after two silly mistakes against Christian Pulisic that changed things. Milan even had the ball in the net but it was ruled out after a marginal offside.

Lazio vs Milan Throwback: Shevchenko’s Introduction to Serie A

Red mist descended for the home side in injury time as they finished the game with 8 players as both Adam Marusic and Matteo Guendouzi were given their marching orders directly on seperate occasions that led to tension and protests after the final whistle. This result is almost certainly the end of the road for Lazio’s Champions League hopes, a terrible disappointment for Maurizio Sarri and his players.

As the red mist descends vs the Rossoneri for Lazio here our are player ratings for the Biancocelesti:

Lazio (4-3-3)

Ivan Provedel – 5.5

Lazio’s ‘keeper wasn’t called into action until added time in the first half when he punched Christian Pulisic‘s effort over. Considerably busier in the second and made good a save against Loftus-Cheek from point blank range. Unlucky with the goal as he got a strong hand to it.

Adam Marusic – 5

Bit nervy at the beginning but settled and put in some good defending. Not caused too many issues in the first half. Lucky Milan’s goal was ruled offside as he was out of position altogether. Was a direct red card to harsh for the foul on Leão? Perhaps there was dissent.

Mario Gila – 6.5

The Spaniard took on Rafael Leão and friends tonight. Kept the Rossoneri under wraps for the majority of the game. Hurt in a challenge by Olivier Giroud but continued. High quality performance all round with very few faults.

Alessio Romagnoli – 6

Went about his work without issue. Milan didn’t threaten the centre-half much and he dealt with any chances and players that he faced.

Luca Pellegrini – 3.5

Plenty of overlapping runs as he endeavoured to add himself to the attacking phase. On the defensive side he was hit and miss against Pulisic before the American completely broke free and caused him to fly into a terribly timed tackle and then get himself a second yellow by not playing the whistle and dragging his opponent all within ten minutes. Schoolboy error.

Matteo Guendouzi – 5

Quick out of the blocks and straight into the action. Constantly applied pressure in the midfield to turn over the play. Played a role in every action and exploited the free space as the game opened up. Pulisic frustrated by pulling his arm while he broke forward at the death. Retaliated with a shove back, earning him a straight red while the attacker was booked.

Matias Vecino – 6

The Uruguayan’s physical presence in the middle was a welcome addition. He came very close to opening the scoring from a corner early on. Fair share of dirty work in the engine room.

Luis Alberto – 6

Hard not to feel sympathy for Alberto who had some bad luck when he wanted to release others. Still contributed massively in the opening half with smart passing. Sacrificed so Pellegrini’s spot could be filled.

Felipe Anderson – 6.5

Lots of activity on and off the ball. Closed down quickly to deny him chances. Game opened and he broke away into spaces but couldn’t convert into opportunities.

Taty Castellanos – 6

Big presence up front that gave Milan’s defence something to think about but he was contained. Had a penalty shout but wasn’t in control of the ball. Honest performance.

Mattia Zaccagni- 6

Irritated the visitors and was able to cut inside to cause trouble by evading defenders with some lovely footwork. Ultimately however there is little to show for it all.

Substitutes:

Elseid Hysaj – 5.5

Mixed the bad with good. Positive attacking play but sometimes he left gaps at the back. Passed by the wide players but won plenty of duels.

Ciro Immobile – 6

Had a massive chance with Isaksen from close range that really should have put the Aquile into the lead. Shot off target in injury time. Put maximum effort in as always.

Gustav Isaksen – 5

Didn’t see the Danish winger for large stretches of his appearence. He didn’t influence the attack much

Danilo Cataldi – N/A
