Lazio Plot Desperate Swoop for Inter Castaway

Serie A strugglers Lazio are frantically looking for reinforcements after losing several crucial first-team pieces at the beginning of the summer. Luis Alberto, Felipe Anderson, and Ciro Immobile are no longer members of the Biancocelesti family, leaving a gigantic gap in the front third.

It’s up to Lazio president Claudio Lotito to come up with solutions. According to Calciomercato, Lotito’s latest idea to strengthen Marco Baroni’s frontline is Inter outcast Joaquin Correa. The Biancocelesti bigwig is intimately familiar with the 29-year-old, who enjoyed a dazzling three-year stint at the Stadio Olimpico.

Correa’s decision to follow in the footsteps of his Lazio manager, Simone Inzaghi, and join Inter in 2021 has proved a fiasco. After two miserable campaigns at Giuseppe Meazza, he tried to revive his career at Marseille last season. However, it was all in vain as he struggled for form and fitness in Ligue 1, resulting in his return to Italy this summer.

The Argentine is no longer in Inzaghi’s plans, with Inter desperate to cash in on their flop. Lazio could shockingly provide Correa with an escape route from Meazza despite his epic downfall over the past three years. But the club’s top priority for attack is Sassuolo talisman Armand Lauriente.

Lauriente’s price tag stands at circa €15 million. Meanwhile, Lazio would need to spend only €7m to bring Correa back to the pack. Even the player’s net salary of €3.5m per year wouldn’t be a significant burden for the capital-based club after numerous high-profile departures.

Another name on Lazio’s shortlist is Napoli’s Gianluca Gaetano.
