Lazio President Sends Squad on Retreat During Crisis

Claudio Lotito ordered a retreat before Wednesday’s clash with Torino to try turning things around. Lazio are off to their worst start in 20 years, having collected just 4 points in the first five matches. The president attempted to rally the troops with a speech.

He had brief remarks to Il Messaggero on Tuesday (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“I’m like a father to the team. Our goal must be common. Clearly, if somebody thinks he can solve things on his own, the president has to intervene.”

Lotito reportedly had a stern talk with Maurizio Sarri after the draw versus Monza. It’s the third time Lazio have resorted to this instrument since he’s at the helm. It worked out in the previous instances, as they beat Fiorentina in October 2021 and prevailed in the Derby with Roma last March right after.

According to Corriere dello Sport, The Biancocelesti are expected to rotate against Torino since some starters are fatigued. In particular, Alessio Romagnoli and Mattia Zaccagni, who have been in the XI in every match, and Danilo Cataldi might begin on the bench. If that were the case, Patric and Nicolò Casale would team up in the back while Pedro would draw his first start of the season.

Despite the request by Lotito to use the newcomers more, Immobile seems destined to lead the line over Taty Castellanos again. Gustav Tang Isaksen should be a substitute after getting the nod over the weekend.
