Lyon sporting director David Friio has confirmed Rayan Cherki will leave the club this summer amid speculation linking him with a move to Lazio. In an interview with Le Progres via LazioNews24, Friio addressed the young forward’s future, announcing the 20-year-old is heading toward the exit door.
“We spoke to him at the beginning of the summer, and we are trying to find a solution,” he said about the Lazio target’s situation at the club. “He will definitely leave. I don’t know what would be the better destination, abroad or PSG
“I think it should be a win-win situation anyway. He is a son of the club, who has given us a lot. But there are moments in a player’s career when he has to look elsewhere. The club that will sign him will reap all the benefits.“
After their pursuit of Barcelona castaway Vitor Roque hit a standstill, Lazio have switched to other targets. Cherki has emerged as an exciting option for the Biancocelesti. His contract at Lyon runs out next summer. As there’s no renewal on the horizon, the Ligue 1 giants are willing to sell.
That gives Lazio legitimate hope that they could sign the highly-rated prodigy in a cut-price deal this summer. Cherki would be a significant attacking addition to Marco Baroni’s squad following the departures of Ciro Immobile, Luis Alberto, and Felipe Anderson.
Lazio have taken a proactive approach this summer. Claudio Lotito has changed the face of the Biancocelesti squad after a disappointing 2023/24 campaign. But he has yet to find decent replacements for the departed trio.
