Lazio Pursuit of Vitor Roque Stalled as Barcelona Hold Out for Higher Bid

Lazio will likely have to expand their search for a new center-forward after Barcelona turned down their offer for Vitor Roque. According to Spanish news outlet Sport, Los Blaugranas have rebuffed the Italian club’s bid worth €20 million for 50% of the Brazilian international’s rights.

Roque’s winter switch to Camp Nou was supposed to address Barcelona’s attacking shortcomings for a decade. However, the 19-year-old experienced a stuttering start in European football. Following an underwhelming first six months in Catalonia, he’s ready to move on, with Lazio pitching the Spaniards with a concrete proposal.

Unfortunately for Claudio Lotito, his eventful plan to bring the Brazilian talent to Lazio has failed to come to fruition. Keen to sell their outcast at a premium price, La Liga giants rejected Biancocelesti’s approach, hoping they will soon hear from Saudi Pro League powerhouse Al-Hilal. Barcelona chiefs believe they could send Roque to the desert for a fee of €40m.

There’s a silver lining for Lazio. The former Athletico Paranaense striker is reportedly reluctant to join the Saudi Arabian champions this summer. He’s instead looking for a new destination in Europe. The Stadio Olimpico could be one of them, but only if Barcelona lower their demands. Otherwise, Lazio would move to other targets.

With Ciro Immobile gone and Taty Castellanos wanted by his ex-employers, Girona, Lazio must sign a new goal-getter to lead the line in 2024/25. Roque remains the club’s dream signing, yet Barcelona’s requests could force them to explore other options.
