Lazio Set To Make a Move On 34-Year-Old International Star

According to multiple Italian media outlets, including top circulation Gazzetta dello Sport, David Silva might be considering a move to Lazio.

The 34-year-old Spanish midfielder, whose contract with Manchester City is about to expire after 10 years, is reported as being in negotiations with the Biancocelesti. Lazio cannot match the salary expectations of the Spanish international – whose wage at the Etihad Stadium was in the range of 5M euros.

But the Biancocelesti could add a series of bonuses and benefits to their 4M euros offer – including an apartment in the city center of Rome and a private jet for him to visit his family in Spain – that may make Silva seriously consider the opportunity to play in Serie A – for which he is rumored to be delighted.

Lazio will play in the Champions League next season and could surely use some additional class and experience in their roster. Simone Inzaghi’s side were the surprise of the 2019-2020 campaign and appeared to be a serious title contender until the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Serie A to halt.

After the restart, they progressively lost form, showing some lack of depth in their roster that a player like Silva could contribute to making up for. A midfield line featuring David Silva, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Luis Alberto is enough to make the Lazio supporters’ mouth water.

With no serious contender in sight to secure the services of the 34-year-old, 4-time Premier League winner (not to mention his triumphs with the Furias Rojas jersey) a move to Italy might be the right call for Silva to live a second youth, following the steps of Cristiano Ronaldo, Frank Ribery, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
