Lazio Set to Rival Juventus for Premier League Castaway

Serie A underachievers Lazio have reportedly joined Juventus in the race to sign Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood. According to reports in England, Claudio Lotito has put the wheels in motion, trying to convince the young Englishman to come to the Stadio Olimpico.

Greenwood returned to football last September after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to police investigation. He joined Getafe on loan and impressed, racking up 14 goal contributions in 33 La Liga appearances. However, he’s back at Man United, waiting to discover his next destination.

After Juventus, Lazio have taken an interest in the 22-year-old forward. Lotito has opened talks with the Red Devils over a potential £30m move for the left-footed winger. He believes he can persuade Greenwood to choose the Biancocelesti over other possible landing spots by offering him a central place in the project.

Greenwood’s potential arrival would be a massive coup for new Lazio boss Marco Baroni. In addition to losing Felipe Anderson and Luis Alberto, the capital-based could soon wave goodbye to veteran striker Ciro Immobile. Three such high-profile departures would significantly deplete Baroni’s attacking options.

Lazio can’t afford to let these exits fly under the radar. With that in mind, luring a player of Greenwood’s quality to Rome would be a statement signing. But they must be wary of Valencia’s interest. The Spaniards have already launched an assault to bring the Englishman back to La Liga, relying on the player’s rumored wish to stay in Spain.
