Lazio Set to Sign Nigerian Midfielder in Bargain Deal

Nigeria international Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has touched down in Rome to undergo medical before penning a contract with Lazio. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the creative midfielder landed in Italy Friday evening and will take his medical on Saturday.

Heavily linked with several elite stars, Lazio will commence the summer transfer window with a relatively low-profile acquisition of Dele-Bashiru. The product of the Manchester City academy spent last season at Turkish outfit Hatayspor, where he caught the Italians’ attention.

Dele-Bashiru made 39 appearances for the club across all competitions, netting nine goals and adding six assists in his maiden season in Turkey. As Hatayspor signed the former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder on a free transfer, it’s no surprise they agreed to sell him to Lazio for €6 million.

It will not be an outright transfer. Lazio will fork out €2m to onboard the player on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the campaign for a further €4m. Claudi Lotito’s men will save a million from this deal, considering Dele-Bashiru’s €7m release clause.

His arrival should compensate for Luis Alberto’s departure. However, Lazio must land a proven option to replace one of the best players in the club’s recent history. Wantaway Manchester United starlet Mason Greenwood would fit the bill.

And Lazio are ready to reopen talks with the Red Devils after their opening bid worth €20m plus a 50% sell-on clause fell flat. Lotito is determined to lure Greenwood to the Stadio Olimpico after Getafe beat him to the punch last summer.
