Lazio Sign Verona Starlet to Potentially Set Up More Deals

With a sudden negotiation, Lazio have acquired Matteo Cancellieri from Verona. The winger made his Serie A debut last season, bagging his maiden goal against Empoli. He featured in 12 matches in total.

The 22-year-old has joined on a season-long loan with conditioned obligation to buy. He will earn €1.5M, and the Biancocelesti will redeem him for €7M next summer, Ansa informs. The attacker was highly productive at the youth level. He earned the trust of Eusebio Di Francesco last summer, but the gaffer was quickly fired. Igor Tudor routinely picked more experienced options over him up until the very end of the campaign.

With the Lazio move, Cancellieri heads back to the Italian capital, where he was born, as he is a product of Roma’s academy. He had joined the Rossoblù in 2020, initially on loan and then on a permanent deal for €2.5M.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Biancocelesti did a solid to the Scaligeri, which wanted to complete a sale before June 30th. They had struck a deal with Monza for Nicolò Casale, but he rejected the destination. The defender could take the same route, alongside Ivan Ilic, once Claudio Lotito’s club has raked in some cash through sales, in particular Luis Alberto’s one. Sevilla might soon raise their opening bid.

Our Take on Lazio Purchasing Cancellieri

The youngster has shown potential in his cameos, and they are not very deep on the flanks. He is further along in his development than Raul Moro and Luka Romero. He could have a decent role right away behind their staples. The relationship between the two sides seems tight, and, if the triple swoop did come to fruition, it would be an acceptable end result for the Biancocelesti despite the loss of the Spaniard.
