Lazio Talisman Set to Join Besiktas

Despite Claudio Lotito’s faint effort to shut down speculation about Ciro Immobile’s future, the long-serving veteran is on the verge of leaving Lazio. Per Fabrizio Romano, Turkish giants Besiktas will announce the Italian center-forward’s signing on Thursday.

Lotito tried to rubbish talks over Immobile’s switch to Besiktas on Tuesday. He insisted the EURO 2020 winner wants to respect his contract at the Stadio Olimpico. Immobile has two more years left to run on his deal in the capital.

Tied to Lazio until the summer of 2026, the former Italy international is about to do quite the opposite of what Lotito said two days ago. He’s reportedly on the cusp of putting pen to paper on a two-year contract at Besiktas.

It’s only natural to assume the Turkish powerhouse offered the Lazio captain an absurd amount of money to end his eight-year association with the Biancocelesti. After a disappointing spell at Borussia Dortmund, Immobile returned to Serie A in 2016 to revive his faltering career.

His decision to join Lazio has proved an utter success. The 34-year-old has made history at the Olimpico, becoming the club’s all-time best goalscorer with a jaw-dropping 207 goals in 340 appearances. In doing so, he helped Lazio win three major domestic trophies.

But after waving goodbye to his faithful companions Luis Alberto and Felipe Anderson earlier this summer, Immobile is no longer keen to stay at Lazio. He rebuffed a lucrative approach from Saudi Arabia last year. Besiktas will be more lucky by the looks of things.
