Leao Again Rebuffs Saudi Interest Despite Previous Ties

Al-Hilal continue to court Rafael Leao, but it appears that nothing will come out of it, as the forward prefers staying at Milan. The Saudi side is coached by Jorge Jesus, who first fielded him in 2017 when he was at Sporting CP.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb), the suitors are ready to tender €100M to the Rossoneri, while the player would earn €20M annually in the emerging league.

Al-Hilal informed the father of Leao, Antonio, of their proposal, but the star wishes to stay at Milan and would eventually continue in Europe if he were to leave. His present club has a firm stance as well, as they’ll let him go only if a club activates his €175M release clause.

The winger is under contract with the Rossoneri until 2028 following last year’s renewal, which took a while to get done. It also contributed to settling his previous legal troubles with Sporting CP. He’s been in Serie A since 2019, when he joined in a €50M move from Lille. He has a tough Euro so far, failing to impress and being disqualified for one game due to yellow-card accumulation because of two dives.

Our Take on Milan, Leao, and Al-Hilal

He probably won’t go to Saudi Arabia, but the question of whether the Rossoneri will cash in one of their main centerpieces, the other being Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez, who have much more uncertain contractual situations, is still lingering, although the international tournament delays everything.
