Leao and Director Massara Comment on Extension Talks

Despite Milan’s impetus to reach agreement sooner rather than later, Rafael Leao kicked the can down the road speaking with DAZN before the Atalanta clash.

“I’m fine here, and I’m talking to the right people. I can’t right now. We’ll see what happens at the end of the season. The game and finishing the campaign well is what matters the most. These last few wins gave us confidence.”

The attacker talked about his new role.

“I’m comfortable with it, and I have freedom of movement. Olivier Giroud and I are closer. I’m trying to score finally, and I’m getting closer to it. I hit the post in the last match.”

Milan sporting director Frederic Massara addressed the negotiation with Leao.

“We are at the same chapter as before, but we are ready to write new ones. We’re confident and we want to find a solution for him and Giroud, as it happened with other pillars of our squad. We are working to get it done.”

The exec looked back at their recent transfer market moves.

“You could second guess a lot of stuff in hindsight, but we are happy of what we did and with how the ownership supported us. We cemented our roster and built for the present and the future. The youngsters need an adaptation period, and some have already gotten past it. We are convinced of the value of the squad. Charles De Ketelaere is strong and talented. He’s growing every day, and he’ll show his worth that with us too. It’s a heavy jersey, and he joined with many expectations.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic joked about Leao and his requests.

“I lowered my wages to give the money to him. I’m playing for free.”
