Leao Signature on New Milan Contract Gets Postponed

Rafael Leao won’t put pen to paper on his extension with Milan Friday as anticipated. He and the club have decided to delay the event by a few days. It should happen next week. The Rossoneri could clinch the Champions League qualification against Juventus.

Per SportMediaset, the postponement occurred due to technicalities, not because the parties changed their minds. The Portuguese star will sign a five-year contract with €5M wages and a €175M release clause. It will be temporary and valid only in July going forward.

Leao discussed his Milan stay and more in a Q&A on Youtube Thursday night (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“My biggest achievement was buying my parents’ house. They helped me get where I am the most. They have always been there for me. You have to give back when you reach this level. I wouldn’t change anything in my career. I had good and bad moments, which contributed to making me grow as a person.”

“Thiago Silva is the strongest opponent I have faced. He has quality and knows the spaces well. He’s intelligent. Danilo is very good too.”

Leao hailed the Scudetto taken home by Milan last season.

“It’s the most important title I’ve won. I’ve been here for nearly four years. The fans had been waiting for it for a long time. The party was incredible. I never experienced anything like that. It was the most extraordinary moment of my career. I aspire at winning the Champions League now. I’ve always dreamt about it and hope to achieve it one day. The same goes for the Balloon d’Or.”

“Cristiano Ronaldo is a reference point for me. Ronaldinho, Robinho, and Neymar are my other favorite players.”
