Leao Still in the Dark Surrounding Milan Contract Situation

Milan winger Rafael Leao is inching closer to a contract extension at Milan, with the upper management led by Ricky Massara and Paolo Maldini eager to see the Portuguese winger stay put. However, there are lingering doubts regarding the forward’s stay.

Negotiations are expected to resume between the two parties soon enough, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews).

Talks between Leao and the Rossoneri have been ongoing for months now, especially since the end of the World Cup in Qatar. However, neither party has been able to agree upon conferred terms set forth by the other – Leao is asking for €7.5m net per season without bonuses, whereas Milan have offered €6M instead.

Moreover, there are a few obstacles that need to be overcome in the contract talks, such as the €15M owed to Sporting CP due to the previously set clause which Milan are obliged to fulfill.

An agreement is expected to be reached before the end of the season, without which the Rossoneri will be forced to sell Leao in order to avoid losing him for free.

Leao possesses the highest transfermarkt value of any player in the Milan squad – worth €80M.
