Lecce and Sassuolo Starlets on Roma Midfield Shortlist

Roma might adjust their midfield in January, especially because of the uncertainty related to Georginio Wijnaldum’s return, and are tracking two Serie A specialists, Morten Hjulmand and Davide Frattesi. But neither would come cheap.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, José Mourinho might prioritize the addition of a pure passer, a piece he asked for right after he moved to the Italian capital. The Lecce playmaker has lived up to the hype following the promotion. He has a lot of foreign admirers, from Borussia Dortmund to Stuttgart, from Brighton to Brentford, and a €20M valuation.

Lecce will try to hold onto Hjulmand in January to boost their chances of avoiding relegation, and it won’t be easy for Roma to acquire Frattesi either, given Sassuolo’s rigidity on price tags. The Italian starlet admitted that he wished to transfer to his boyhood club in the past window. However, the parties couldn’t come to an agreement. He has scored four times already despite a relatively slow start.

As per Tuttomercatoweb, his former coach Roberto De Zerbi will try to reunite with him at Brighton. It’d take at least a €30M offer for him to move. The Giallorossi have the upper hand on the competition since they are owed 30 percent of the fee, which naturally lowers the request. However, the Emilian club would eventually do the deal only outright, not with an initial loan.

Our Take on Roma Pursuing Hjulmand and Frattesi

With Mady Camara faring decently and the possibility of deploying Lorenzo Pellegrini a few meters back thanks to the return of Paulo Dybala, the Giallorossi will probably stand pat in January. Otherwise, a maestro would make more sense than different types of midfielders.
