One of the many reasons why Lecce have been able to mount a stronghold on the Serie A table is due to their defense, manned on the left flank by Patrick Dorgu. The 18-year-old Dane has proved instrumental for the Giallorossi, although he couldn’t help his side avoid a first defeat of the season at the hands of Juventus. He revealed just before the 1-0 defeat at the Allianz Stadium of his dream to star in the Premier League.
Dorgu spoke to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet in an exclusive ahead of the clash in Turin, stressing his intention to play in London one day.
“Chelsea is my dream to play for. I have been a fan of them for over 10 years, so it would be a huge dream to play for them. I am happy that the biggest teams in the world are keeping an eye on me. But it’s about keeping a cool head and working with what you have to in order to get better.”
The Nordsjælland youth product moved to Lecce U19 in July 2022 and only recently extended his stay in the southeast of Italy to the summer of 2027. Taking stock of his rapid growth, Dorgu was soon pushed onto the Lecce senior squad.
He made his senior professional debut just last month, in the 1-0 win over Como in the Coppa Italia‘s first round, before impressing further in his Serie A debut against Lazio. Dorgu is expected to take over Joakim Maehle’s in the Denmark national team as the natural successor in the left-back position. Liverpool, Manchester City, and Barcelona have previously been linked to Dorgu.
