Lecce Exec Reveals Talks with Napoli for Danish Midfield Starlet

Lecce’s Danish starlet Morten Hjulmand played a vital role in the club’s resurgence back into Serie A from the second-tier after winning the league championship by two points. He has now started drawing interest from top Italian clubs.

He played all but one game for the Serie B winners and his performances have rightfully garnered the attention of top clubs, including Inter. However, the Partenopei have reached out to the Salentini to discuss a potential deal.

Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino affirmed that he was in exploratory talks with Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli regarding Hjulmand.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Kiss Kiss (via Tuttomercatoweb), the executive revealed he spoke to his Partenopei counterpart when quizzed about any contacts with the southern giants.

“I am in touch with Giuntoli, who called to congratulate me on the promotion to Serie A. I think Hjulmand was one of the most interesting players in Serie B last season. He has the potential to become a real quality player. After Vlahovic, I would rate him as one of my great discoveries of recent years. He has everything it takes to explode.”

Our Take on Napoli Tracking Hjulmand

Hjulmand is known for his versatility and tenacity and could be a useful addition for Napoli. Usually deployed as a defensive midfielder in the center of the pitch, he would seamlessly fit into Fabian Ruiz’s boots, as the Spaniard might leave the club in the coming weeks. The Dane can function as a box-to-box midfielder and even further up the field as a creative regista.
