A bidding war might be brewing for Inter, as on top of Investcorp, Leeds United majority owner and Italian entrepreneur Andrea Radrizzani is probing the possibility of taking over the Nerazzurri as well. The situation isn’t straightforward, though. He would need to sell his share of the Whites to the American fund that already controls 44 percent of it. That could happen only if they avoided relegation this season, Bloomberg informs.
The tycoon is well-connected within Italian football. He founded the streaming service Eleven Sports, which broadcasted Serie C exclusively for a few years. It recently merged with DAZN. He now sits on the board of directors of Len Blavatnik’s company.
According to SportMediaset, Radrizzani paid Inter a visit in October at the Viale della Liberazione HQ. They officially spoke about TV rights given his expertise. During the spring of 2021, he stated that he was keeping an eye on the club and would be keen on discussing with the Zhang family.
The controlling company Suning is under pressure because of its debts. A hearing of a lawsuit started by China Construction Bank, which claims to be owed $300M in Hong Kong, will take place on April 19th in Milan. If the creditors were successful, they would be able to target his Italian assets, including the club, La Repubblica relays.
Our Take on Inter and Radrizzani
Multiple investors competing for the team would be a boon for Zhang, although his €1B valuation is probably a long shot. He was very quick to dismiss the sale rumors in the past. We’ll see whether he’ll do it again in short order.
