Lega Serie A Sanction Inzaghi, Bastoni and Martinez for Milan Derby Antics

The Milan derby came to a bitter end last weekend, as tempers flared between the Nerazzurri and Rossoneri benches in the run to the final whistle. Milan wing-back Theo Hernandez received a late red card for a cynical challenge on Denzel Dumfries moments before the end of the match, prompting manager Simone Inzaghi and the Inter staff to erupt out of anger.

The incident made Nerazzurri forward Lautaro Martinez take his frustration out on Hernandez as the players exited the pitch after the match. The Argentine reportedly hurled insults at the former Real Madrid defender.

On the other hand, Inzaghi is said to have made disrespectful remarks to referee Marco Guida in the tunnel, whereas defender Alessandro Bastoni noched it up a level and indicated uncalled-for comments towards two match officials after the final whistle.

After investigations by officials from Lega Serie A, an official report has been released regarding the penalties imposed by the footballing authority on the three Inter representatives.

Martinez has been handed a €10,000 fine and in similar terms, coach Inzaghi has received a €15,000 fine, along with a touchline ban for one league match. Azzurri defender Bastoni has been given a two-match ban instead for his remarks.

This rules the former Lazio manager out of the sidelines at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in their next league clash, as Inter prepare to get back on track against second-placed Napoli. Bastoni will miss the aforementioned top-of-the-table clash and Sassuolo’s visit to the Giuseppe Meazza on February 20.

Inter sit on top of league with 53 points, despite losing the Derby della Madonnina encounter against Milan. The Rossoneri, however, managed to narrow down the gap to just point on top of Serie A standings, although Inter have an extra game in hand.
