Inter legend Sandro Mazzola has reveled in the Inter of today, praising coach Simone Inzaghi for integrating well at the Giuseppe Meazza, with what was left of Antonio Conte’s Scudetto winning team.

The ex-Lazio boss is currently on the top of Serie A as the winter champion – with 43 points after 18 matchdays, four more than 2nd and 3rd placed Napoli and Milan.

Inzaghi is aiming to win his first domestic league title, since beginning his managerial career in the 2016/17 season. If he does manage to win the Scudetto, he will join an exclusive club of three other managers – Alfredo Foni in 1953/54, Giovanni Invernizzi in 1970/71 and Jose Mourinho in 2008/09 – to do so in their first season in charge of Inter.

Mazzola, whose final game for Inter arrived with Invernizzi on the bench, has backed Simone to follow the footsteps of the greats.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport in an exclusive interview, the 4-time Scudetto winner commented on how well Inzaghi has managed to fare in his role so far

He said: “I like how Simone Inzaghi is making the team play. Of course, we have really strong players in every department, this should be emphasized. But Inzaghi immediately fell into our environment, made quick, clear choices, was able to recharge who he was. Bravo, really good. Simone is already in the footsteps of the greats.”

Mazzola went on to give the examples of Giovanni Trapattoni and Marcelo Lippi as managers who Simone can replicate.

“We must consider that at Inter a certain Trapattoni had to wait until the third season for the scudetto of records and the world champion coach, Lippi, has only managed one championship, gray. Yes, Simone is really good and can do it,” he explained.
