Legendary Sacchi ‘Curious’ to See Inter Battle Liverpool in Europe

Former Milan tactician Arrigo Sacchi is impressed with the way Inter have evolved under new coach Simone Inzaghi.

The legendary Italian manager was amazed by the Nerazzurri’s performance in the entertaining stalemate clash against Bergamo giants Atalanta, and at the same time praised La Dea trainer Gian Piero Gasperini for his team’s exploits in keeping the Italian champions out of goal.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FCInterNews) after the Nerazzurri duo clashed, Sacchi commented on both the team’s respective displays but focused his talk on the Milan giants.

“Inter didn’t seem tired, they faced a very difficult team like Atalanta who, despite their absences, try to play their game. Atalanta usually win at home,” he said.

Sacchi further continued his analysis by focusing on Inter’s upcoming Champions League tie against Premier League giants Liverpool, drawing gameplay comparisons between Atalanta and the Reds.

“I’m curious to see Inter against Liverpool because Liverpool will do what Atalanta did, albeit with other players. And so it will be even more dangerous. But in my opinion Inter Milan is constantly evolving.”

Finally, the ex-Rossoneri legend congratulated both coaches for playing out an ‘interesting game’ that allows no space for mistakes.

“I congratulate both coaches: it was an interesting game, the fan does not have time to breathe and any mistake could be fatal,” he concluded.

Inter sit on top of Serie A standings with 50 points, closely trailed by city-rivals Milan on 48. Atalanta on the other hand, occupy the 4th place. Both teams have played a game less than their counterparts and will look to extend their lead in the top half of the table.

The Nerazzurri host Liverpool first at the Giuseppe Meazza in mid-February, before heading north to Anfield Road on March 9 for the 2nd leg.
