Leicester City Set Sights on Fiorentina Top Attacker

Fiorentina have received a large offer from Leicester City for Nicolas Gonzalez, who has missed most of the current season and the World Cup due to multiple injuries. He returned and scored a PK in the most recent match versus Sassuolo.

Per Gianluca Di Marzio, the Foxes have tendered €34M for the pacey winger, and the Viola are mulling whether to accept. They had paid €27M to acquire him from Stuttgart in the summer of 2021. He has registered 13 goals and 9 assists in 50 appearances so far. Despite his physical problems, he has hit the net 5 times in 11 matches this campaign.

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano alluded to the Leicester City bid for Gonzalez in the presser before facing Sampdoria in Coppa Italia.

“He’s a deciding player, and he almost has more goals than minutes. They are just rumours, and that will be the case until the end of the window. I saw him very eager to get back into shape today, he’s pushing hard, and I’ve never discussed any other matter with him.”

Our Take on Fiorentina, Gonzalez, and Leicester City.

It’d be almost a pity to sell him after waiting for so long for him to get healthy. They have stayed afloat while he was out, eventually finding a solution with Christian Kouamé playing wide. He and Jonathan Ikoné have improved a lot thanks to the increased responsibilities. The offer is good enough to think about it, but his valuation would increase significantly if he played consistently and fared adequately in the next six months, so the timing might not be the right one.
