Lille Superstar to Stay atop Milan Offensive Wish List

Amid their frantic search for a new striker, Milan made a final attempt for Jonathan David. Since they used up their budget, they proposed a loan, and Lille quickly repelled them. They wound up signing Luka Jovic on a free transfer from Fiorentina, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.

Signing the Canadian ace would have been different than their other targets. It would have been the first step toward a future investment. It wasn’t a last-minute idea either. They tracked him in previous windows, and he’s atop their wish list for next summer.

Following the early inquiries, the Milan hierarchy was scared off by the price tag of David, €60M. Hence, they moved on to Mehdi Taremi, Alvaro Morata, and Gianluca Scamacca but ultimately preferred spending in different positions.

Even should the 23-year-old have another strong season, the Rossoneri expect his valuation to go down. His contract expires in 2025, and he doesn’t seem keen on prolonging it. Most of the key summer signings had just a year on their deals. They’ll make a splash at the position in the near future considering Olivier Giroud’s age.

Our Take on Milan and David

Having addressed a host of roles in the recent transfer window, they’ll be able to focus on one of two after this season. A great up-and-coming no.9 is surely a priority.
