Lille Take Lead in Talks for Fiorentina Outcast Kouamé

Only recently did reports emerge of Christian Kouamé nearing a contract extension with Fiorentina, but his future is still in the blue following enquiries from Ligue 1 clubs. After Nantes and Nice, Clermont came into the picture to sign the 25-year-old, but yet another club has accelerated their efforts to sign Kouamé.

Footmercato indicates Lille’s presence as definitive in the transfer race for the Ivorian. Initial contacts have already been established for the striker, who has been relegated to the bench this season following the arrivals of M’Bala Nzola and Lucas Beltran.

With Mohamed Bayo set to depart the Dogues, Lille have accelerated their efforts to onboard a replacement in the frontline.

Nantes recently mellowed their efforts to sign Kouamé, whereas he is reportedly out of Clermont’s reach. On the other hand, Nice seem to have given up quite early without even making an effort. Lorient have reportedly put forth a bid, but it is Lille which have taken the leap in terms of negotiations. Bologna also have an interest in Kouamé, but the Rossoblù are engaged in other deals to bolster their squad.
