Live Updates from Serie A Transfer Market Deadline Day

The 2020 January transfer market window comes to an end today, with the bell ringing at 8 pm in Italy. While it is not expected to be a particularly busy or bombastic deadline day, several deals will be finalized and surprises are always around the corner. The biggest name in the mix is Edin Dzeko as the proposed swap with Alexis Sanchez collapsed, but Roma might look at other solutions. The most coveted player is Gianluca Scamacca, whose future is really up in the air with multiple scenarios on the table.

Some transfers were announced over the weekend as the Giallorossi signed Stephan El Shaarawy and Torino found their striker in Antonio Sanabria, who was acquired for €10M from Real Betis, and is returning to Serie A after a decent stint at Genoa. Benevento got their man up front as well by adding 21-year-old Adolfo Gaich from CSKA Moscow on convoluted formula which could see them pay €11M down the line. Patrick Cutrone, who was targeted by few clubs after leaving Fiorentina, has instead joined Valencia.

We will follow all the official deals and the hottest rumours in this post throughout the day. Also check out the transfer market tracker to keep up with what has happened so far.

10.31 am: Parma, which should be one of the most active sides, have bolstered their defense with Mattia Bani, who joins on a season-long loan with option to buy from Genoa. He had a solid start of the season but coach Davide Ballardini has preferred other players in this role, while the Ducali have been sieve-like in the back in recent games.

11.49 am: Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta confirmed that the Dzeko-Sanchez deal is off, adding that the two teams never seriously discussed it and that chatter mostly came from agents. Christian Eriksen and Ivan Perisic are staying put as well.

12.12 pm: Daniele Rugani, who is at Rennes, was linked to Parma and Torino in recent days, but it looks like Bologna are making a strong push to sign him on loan, experts Gianluca Di Marzio and Nicolò Schira reported.

1.17 pm: Roma have deposited at the League’s office the contract of Bryan Reynolds, for whom they beat the competition coming from Juventus. Viktor Kovalenko will instead join Atalanta right away and not in the summer: after agreeing to a contract with him in previous weeks, they have convinced Shakhtar Donetsk to free him up in advance with a €700k offer. Both moves are official.

2.02 pm: Christian Maggio has left Benevento as the two sides agreed to part ways. He is likely headed to Serie B, while the Sanniti replaced him with Fabio Depaoli, who already debuted.

2.27 pm: the rarely utilized Nehuen Paz has bolted from Bologna to join Kayserispor on a season-long loan.

3.50 pm: after Cagliari signed Alfred Duncan and brought back Alessandro Deiola in the midfield, Fabrizio Caligara has been loaned to Ascoli, while Marko Pajac, who has never featured, has been sold to Brescia.

4.15 pm: Juventus have loaned youngster Wesley, who recently appeared in a Coppa Italia match, to Sion.

4.25 pm: Juventus appear to be out of the running for Gianluca Scamacca and have decided to stand pat up front, insiders Romeo Agresti and Nicolò Schira report.

5.43 pm: Benevento have offloaded two more fringe players as Massimo Volta and Abdallah Basit have been loaned to Pescara.

6.08 pm: Sami Khedira is now officially a Hertha Berlin player.

6.22 pm: Parma have officially completed the paperwork to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bayern Munich, while Fiorentina have a new third-string goalkeeper in Antonio Rosati, who joins on a permanent deal from Torino.

6.39 pm: Torino have loaned young central midfielder Jacopo Segre to SPAL and made the addition of Rolando Mandragora official few minutes later.

7.19 pm: the race to sign Gianluca Scamacca looks set to end in a dud as he is likely to stay at Genoa according to multiple sources.

7.53 pm: Cagliari have loaned Christian Oliva to Valencia, who did not really manage to become a regular over the last 18 months, although he started here and there. Teams continue to trim the rosters: Bologna loaned Orji Okwokwo and Kingsley Michael to Reggina, while Verona shipped Antonino Di Gaudio to Chievo and Luigi Vitale to Frosinone. Genoa have sent Vittorio Parigini to Ascoli.

8.01 pm: the window has closed, but some deals will continue to come in for some time as clubs make their official announcements.

8.05 pm: the final significant deal is Daniele Rugani surprisingly moving to Cagliari after being linked to few clubs throughout the day. The Juventus defender was on loan at Rennes in the first portion of the season but did not play a lot due to an injury. He joins the Rossoblù with the same formula. Bologna missed out on Rugani but did acquire a defender: the hulking 20-year-old Valentin Antov from CSKA Sofia, who was brought in on a season-long loan with conditioned obligation to buy.

8.16 pm: Adam Ounas is on the move again after failing to break through at Cagliari as he has transferred to Crotone on loan from Napoli.

8.29 pm: Juventus have announced the convoluted details on Mandragora’s move to Torino.

10.36 pm: The transfer market is still open elsewhere, so Lukas Lerager has left Genoa to move back to Denmark, to Copenhagen more specifically, after two solid years, while the oft-injured Denis Vavro has been loaned to Huesca by Lazio.
