Manuel Locatelli has been rejuvenated by the arrival of Thiago Motta after a few lackluster seasons and claimed that Juventus were ready to mount a serious title bid in an interview with TuttoSport (via Mediaset).
“I think that Inter are still the favorites as they are the most complete side. There are many good teams, like Milan, which played great in the Derby, and Napoli. However, we’re a top club and can’t hide. We have to take it step by step.”
The former Sassuolo star examined his journey in Turin.
“I matured a lot as a player and a person. On the other hand, I needed to be more consistent in the last three years. I’m the first to challenge myself, so I have to get better. We have more possession now, so I have more touches. It’s a different style, and I’m pleased for it”
Locatelli had the chance of joining Arsenal before moving to Juventus.
“I don’t second-guess that decision, but I watch their matches and esteem their coach Mikel Arteta.”
The midfielder had a fair share of gaffers already.
“Roberto De Zerbi was surely the most peculiar and the craziest one. He’s aware of that. It’s also a virtue, though. It helps him achieve great results.”
Juventus have had trouble scoring so far, and Locatelli hasn’t done it much personally in recent campaigns.
“We did better in the Napoli game than in the Roma one. We needed to play more vertically and populate the box. It’s normal, as we have just started on this new path. It’s something I need to work on, but that’s not a priority for my role. I’d like to be more decisive, but I have to help maintaining the balance first.”
