Claudio Lotito sternly addressed the recent chatter about Lorenzo Insigne joining Lazio, as the winger is attempting to leave Toronto FC. The Lazio owner talked with Tag24.
“As far as I know, there’s nothing true. At least not that I’m aware of, if I have to be honest. What do you want me to say? That’s that.”
Lotito doubled down on his rebuttal.
“Look, they haven’t told me anything about it. It looks like nonsense to me, if not even worse. You should speak with director Angelo Fabiani. I don’t know if they have thought about something, but I’m not privy to it at the moment. Maurizio Sarri wants Insigne? I have no knowledge of it. It looks like BS to me.”
According to Corriere dello Sport, the attacker phoned his former Napoli coach. The Biancocelesti would be his preferred destination if he were granted his release. However, he’ll have to agree to a much lower salary to return to Italy.
Cutting ties with Toronto FC might not even be enough since he makes €11.5M. The MLS franchise would have to facilitate exit by loaning him out and contributing to his wages, Tuttomercatoweb relays.
Our Take on Lazio and Insigne
It’s starting to seem like a repeat of what happened in the summer, when the boss wanted some veterans, and the president had different ideas. The latter had his way, as usual, and considering the cost of the deal, that’ll probably be the case again.
