Lotito Talks Italy, Discloses Giant Past Offer for SMS

Claudio Lotito urged the Azzurri to grow tighter and discussed a few Lazio-related topics in an interview with the official Serie A radio (via Sky).

“I’m not a fortune-teller, but I believe we have everything to qualify for Euro 2024. I can say one thing, though. You can always find players and coaches, while presidents are rarer. They need to create the right alchemy, not only technically speaking, but with the whole environment. Who’s at the top is key to motivating the players and making them believe in the project and play up to their potential. He’s like a father, a reference point.”

Lotito revisited the sale of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

“It was his personal choice. We didn’t want to do it, but they proposed him very important wages. He longed for a new experience. He didn’t join a top club because we never received concrete offers. There was just one from an Italian side, which I won’t name, that put forth €100M in the past. We turned it down because we had a commitment with Simone Inzaghi and we wouldn’t have been able to replace him.”

Even though some coaches, including Maurizio Sarri, think otherwise, Lotito favors keeping the current dates.

“It was an error to close the transfer market early that year. The same goes for shutting it down at 8 pm and not later like in other countries.”
