Lozano Carted Off During Mexico Game Due to Shoulder Injury

Hirving Lozano was stretchered off in last night’s tilt between Mexico and Panama after a collision with Micheal Murillo. The attacker fell on his right arm and bowed out at the 65th minute. Napoli announced he suffered a right shoulder sprain, which was immediately reduced. He will undergo further evaluations upon his return to Italy.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lozano risks missing significant time. This type of injury could take up to two months to heal, but it hinges on much damage the joint sustained. That will be clear only after more tests. The Azzurri are holding their breath, hoping he will not require surgery.

Napoli lost Victor Osimhen and Dries Mertens for extended time because of the same problem in the last couple of years. It is the second time Lozano gets badly hurt while playing with Mexico in the span of a few months. He suffered a neck trauma and a deep cut near his left eye last July. He was eventually ready for the Serie A opener, but it took him a while to be in tip-top shape, having missed the pre-season preparation.

Lozano started in 11 out of the last 13 Napoli matches, skipping two because of COVID-19. He snapped out of a scoring drought by deciding January 17th’s game versus Bologna with a brace. The Partenopei will face Venezia Sunday. They will have a busy February as they will square off against Inter and Lazio in Serie A. Moreover, they will meet Barcelona in Europa League.
